Oyfo Museum Project: Wasting Space

For the final project of my 2nd year in the CMGT(Creative Media and Game Technologies) study program, myself and 7 of my peers designed and developed a game for the OYFO Technical Museum in Hengelo. The goal of the project was to create an experience that would teach museum goers about an important event or cause in the worl. We created a game that shines a light on a seldom mentioned danger of spaceflight, orbital debris or space junk.

Currently there are millions of deadly pieces of metal that orbit the earth varying between a few millimeters and a few meters in size. In our game Wasting Space the player must navigate their spaceship through a field of debris located in earth’s orbit, collecting as much debris as they can before they either run out of fuel, become too damaged to continue, or run out of storage capacity and must return to the space station.

This project was created in Unity using C#. My main responsibilities for the project, other than casual bug fixing and some UI code, were a global leaderboard system and the ship customization system.
